We’re currently working on an album and I’ve decided to keep a sort of diary to document the process from start to finish. This is mostly for myself, but if voyeuristic souls wish to follow, the blog is public. This wont be posted on here again.
what are the musical influences that led you to write songs like Blue and What you were? I've never heard a shoegaze band add so much punk/emo elements to their tracks. arigato :)
when we were writing the album, there was a lot more punk and hardcore in rotation than before so a bit of that crept into the album. Blue was initially a straightforward uptempo shoegaze song until the drums were added, which completely changed the mood. What You Were is basically what happens when you listen to that I Have Dreams demo and the second EP by the Cabs way too many times in the span of a single day. there was never a decision to shift the album the way, it was just kinda started happening and we ran with it.
Can you write the tab - or just the chords - for Blue? It would be very nice to know how to play it !
the tuning is technically D standard cos that’s how i play it on the album, but live everything is up in E standard so that’s just how i tabbed it. this is more like a tabbed list of chords in the order they first appear in. you should be able to figure it out with just this. hopefully tumblr wont murder the formatting.
Remember that time we played Adore in its entirety for the only time ever? We properly recorded it and now we’re making it available to you. Limited to 40 copies, cassette only (but with a download code), one pressing only then it disappears forever. This is a preorder and we’ll ship ‘em to you in a couple weeks.
Hi, big fan from up in Canada eh? Love Adore. Just wondering what you guys use for gear? And cool or wierdo pedals? (Guitar, specifically) Thanks!
oh boy this is gonna be a big answer. well for starters, the gear used on Adore is nothing AT ALL like what we use live. Adore was literally recorded entirely with a Crate 2x12 practice amp (SERIOUSLY) and no pedals. just straight in and a couple of the built in effects. now that wont fly live, so i’m using a Sunn SL260 slaved out into a Peavey Supreme 160 head which goes into 2 4x12 cabs. i actually still use the Crate too, but it’s been painted over with custom art and i send a 100% wet reverb signal into it, so it’s just pumping verb and nothing else.
as for pedals, nothing too weird. in signal chain order: tuner, shitty cheap overdrive i use as a feedback boost, Behringer DD400 delay (i think?), EH Metal Muff nano (set with the gain almost on nothing), effects loop pedal serving as a footswitch for an Alesis Midiverb II, cheap Danelectro delay for noise, EH Big Muff Pi, EH Holier Grail (sending that 100% wet reverb out i mentioned), Digitech looper/sampler.
bonus answer: Kendric uses a bunch of weird cymbals on his kit that he bought in Turkey handcrafted by some like drum wizard on a mountain or something idk
What's on that compilation DVD? Also, East Coast/Beast Coast tour
LEAST COAST jk it’s footage from every band that played this show we did last month. Raepusbarabus / Ambersmoke / Miasma / us / Xenotaph. should be out before the end of the year? watch here for details: https://www.facebook.com/boneorchardkvlt
Other than? I assume you mean the show a few weeks ago we recorded for release. There’s a couple live videos from a not so great set we played in Fresno a few months ago (including a new song) on Youtube and there’s a compilation DVD coming out with about 10 minutes of footage from the Adore show but other than that, you’re pretty out of luck. We record all our shows in audio and video, but it’s just for reference usually and totally unfit for release.
r u a band of sad ghosts cuz there's no footage of u playing live c'mon wtf </3
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyX9p_Mc-Ko here’s a new song we played for the first time ever a few weeks ago. there’s also a video of adore on that channel too. we dont usually look this dead performing, it was an off night.
can you release chords for we're still drifting? itd make me very happy
i seriously had to learn tab notation for this because i haven’t read or made a guitar tab in years. this is for the re-recorded version/how we play it live because i forgot the album version. the major difference is the live version is shorter and played in drop D, the album version is drop B or drop A but played the same way almost.
repeat that a few times and there’s the song. i’m really bad at tabbing. sorry. all the bends are half step btw. feel it out.
